DJ Games For Wedding Receptions & Other Wedding Reception Games

DJ games for wedding receptions are a fresh twist to your standard wedding reception. The wedding reception is where everyone gets to cut loose but not everyone is comfortable with their dancing skills. With DJ games for wedding receptions you can give everyone an opportunity to participate in the fun of active wedding reception games. From shoe games to the good old-time favorite of musical chairs, there's lots of fun to be had out on the dance floor that doesn't actually involve dancing!

Whether you are a DJ looking to add something new to your act or a bride/groom-to-be trying to come up with some ideas for your wedding reception, there are some great games that will help get guests out of their seats. If you want to get your guests dancing or just mingling, try some of the following fun ideas for active wedding reception games.

DJ Games For Wedding Receptions

  • Musical Chairs - The game that you played as a kid is just as much fun for adults when you throw in a little twist. Instead of using chairs, have the men in the audience serve as the “chairs”. Men line up in two rows and when the music stops, women must grab a guy instead of a seat. Keep going until only one couple remains.
  • Roman Hands - Blindfold the bride, and have the best man sit in a chair at the front of the room. Then have the best man hide three clips on the groom’s body in hard to find places, such as in pockets, the back of the neck, or the top of a sock. As the music plays, the blindfolded bride must try to find all three clips on her groom before the song is over. Get the crowd involved by having them call out “warmer” or “cooler” as the bride searches.
  • Pucker Up - Call the groom up to the front of the DJ station and ask him how confident he is about how well he knows his bride. Then blindfold him and ask the bride and bridesmaids to line up in front of him. Announce that each one will give the groom a kiss, and he must then call out the number of his bride at the end. After each lady has given the groom a kiss, make sure the photographer is ready, and when you pull off the blind fold, have the bride’s father puckered up and waiting for a kiss from his new son-in-law.
  • Shoe Game - With the bride and groom seated in the middle of the dance floor, or in a central locations so that all guests can see, the MC, best man, or maid of honor asks the couple questions about each other to show how well they know themselves. Both the bride and groom will have one side of each others' shoes and will raise the corresponding shoe to indicate if the answer is referring to either the bride or the groom. The guests (and the couple) will have loads of fun finding out just how much they know (or don't know… yikes!) about each other.
  • Name that Tune - If you have a group of guests from a wide variety of age ranges, a game of Name That Tune is a great ice breaker. You can either have the guests call out the name of the tune or band, or you can play a game where you play the theme song to different TV shows and see who can name the TV show.
  • Flower Count - The shy single ladies in the house will appreciate this one the most… Rather than having the bride throw her bouquet to a group of waiting single women, you can play the flower counting game. Put a jar of confetti, candy, or some other small item near the wedding cake or on your DJ stand. Ask female guests to guess how many items are in the jar and write down their guess on a piece of paper with their name. Have the maid of honor verify the winner near the end of the reception and then the bride will present her bouquet to the winner.

No matter which games or activities you choose to make the reception more interesting, your guests will thank you and appreciate your efforts at trying to include everyone. Don’t forget about all of the traditional wedding songs. Other DJ games for wedding reception that you can suggest to your DJ include staples like the limbo and chair dances… these never go out of style. The most important thing is to make sure you pick a DJ that will pay attention to the guests and change up the routine to keep everyone interested. While weddings offer many serious and sweet moments, most guests will remember the fun you provided long after the reception is over.
